I recently joined with parliamentary colleagues from across the North West led by Liverpool MP, Maria Eagle, in writing to United Utilities to register our disgust on the release of untreated sewage into the River Mersey at Garston Docks.
The water companies are getting away with this all too often. It’s high time we brought forward legislation to prevent unwanted spillages into our waterways. Many of my constituents believe that rather than invest properly in infrastructure, privatised water companies, such as United Utilities, have prioritised paying billions to shareholders, millions to executives, neglected dealing with loss through leakage, and have invested less than necessary in infrastructure.
We look forward to a response from United Utilities CEO, Steve Mogford.
